Ben Davis Outdoors is a non-profit organization designed to bring veterans together and give them the chance to enjoy the outdoors. Scott Davis started this organization in honor of his father Ben Davis to show continuous support to our veterans.
Who Is Ben Davis?
Ben Davis was an avid hunter and one of the toughest to ever walk the earth. At the age of 16, he broke his back in a car wreck. Doctors told him he would be wheelchair bound the rest of his life. Hunting was a big part of his identity, most definitely a passion he excelled at. Being in a wheelchair wasn’t going to work for him, so as a paraplegic, he taught himself how to walk. Though aided with canes, Ben found a way to make it work.
Ben was the Grant County Executive Director of the USDA Farm Service Agency for 40 years. Farmers loved him. He treated the government office like a coffee shop. His relationships with landowners provided many opportunities to live his passion for hunting. Physical limitations did not stop him from enjoying many mornings in the blind.
He shared this love with his family and close friends. Ben passed away in 2015 due to leukemia. His memory lives on through Ben Davis Outdoors which serves men and women of our armed services, both retired and active duty. Many of the vets we serve have physical limitations of varying degrees, and the vast majority deal with PTSD every day. Ben always believed that getting out to enjoy the outdoors through hunting, fishing, and other activities was very therapeutic. This is the reason Ben Davis Outdoors exists.
Meet The Team
Scott Davis
President and founder of Ben Davis Outdoors. Scott oversees land access/leases, landowner relations, and logistics. He despises goose hunting, but joins the occasional duck hunt. His passion is coyote hunting.
Julia Davis
Granddaughter of Ben Davis, daughter to Scott. Julia is an avid hunter. She is a regular on many hunts, providing assistance where needed.
Don Davis
Brother to Ben. Don brings a lifetime of hunting experience to BDO. He, along with son Eric, are regular fixtures on outings.
Shane "Hobie" Hobrect
Retired US Air Force TAC-P. Shane resides in Oklahoma. He makes the trek to WA for deer season every year. He guides fellow vets primarily in Okanogan County, where his family has roots.
Chris Fraim
BDO boardmember, and jack of all trades pro staff. Chris is retired US Army, and Purple Heart recipient. He served multiple deployments.
Barry Wemp
BDO boardmember. Avid big game and coyote hunter.
Eric Davis
Eric is a nephew to Ben Davis. He is a skilled waterfowler. Eric guides many of the hunts for BDO.
Jake Torwick
BDO boardmember. Retired US Air Force TAC-P. Jake served multiple deployments in his 20 year career. Jake has been with BDO since its inception. Waterfowl, big game, upland, Jake does it all. He currently serves as the BDO central Texas head of operations. This primarily entails whitetail and wild hogs. Jake secures leases, handles landowner relations, and is heavily involved with many veteran groups.
Tyson Beaumont
Owner of Wing Tip Outfitters here in the Columbia
Basin. Tyson is a highly skilled waterfowler with a solid reputation in the hunting community. Tyson guides many of the veteran hunts with great success. Tyson views guiding our veterans as a privilege.
Tommy Workinger
Tommy is a guide for Tyson and Wingtip Outfitters.
Tommy guides our vets alongside Tyson, as well as solo. He too takes a lot of pride in providing quality outings for our Nation‘s heroes.
Zach Kallstrom
Zach has been guiding vets for BDO since its inception. He is a former guide service owner, that now donates all of his time to our veteran guests. Zach has a lifetime of experience and a skill
set that is second to none. Many of the hunts are run by Zach and his father, Mike. Both men are humble and truly value the sacrifices made by our veteran guests. Zach hunts all things that fly and walks on 4 legs. He also guides vets on bow hunts for carp in area waterways.
Mike Kallstrom
Father to BDO staffer, Zach. As a duo, Mike and Zach
guide many of the hunts. They have well over 1000 birds harvested with the BDO guests.
"Ripp"
Ripp is one of two workhorses for BDO. He is 2 years old but
has over 1000 retrievers to his name. He works for biscuits and belly scratches.
"SIG"
Sig is one of the two BDO workhorses. Just like his buddy
Ripp, Sig doesn‘t shy away from a good dog biscuit and belly scratch. He too has been with BDO since its inception. Thousands of retrieves in his lifetime. He is the O.G.
Earnie Holt
Local Legend. A mainstay on most hunts. Ernie brings a lifetime of experience and passion. He's a man of the people.
